HEALTH and safety rules were obviously pretty low down the priority list in 1962 when this Gorbals tenement was toppled to clear the way for Glasgow's Brave New World.
While today there would have been a mile-wide exclusion zone and gangs of wee jobsworths in hard hats and hi-vis vests issuing orders over walkie-talkies, in 1962 the Press and the public were kept just a few yards away from the stour and tumbling rubble. And, if we're not mistaken, that's the Lord Provost's old Daimler parked by the pavement, left. We're sure there would have been questions asked if he'd taken it back to the City Chambers with a dent in it!
Meanwhile, in the background, the modernist high-rises which replaced the old tenements were busy reaching skywards.
