AS the colleges and universities get started in a new term, the students' thoughts are probably focused on new courses and the first essay deadlines.

But, like many students before them, at some point during their studies, their attention could turn to high jinks and capers, all in the name of raising cash.

In 1936, students from the Royal Technical College opted for a naval theme as they took part in charities' day.

Quite a bit of research seems to have gone into creating the costumes, though the sails and flags look rather the worse for wear.

And, like their predecessors and successors, so perhaps did the students the day after, following a night of celebrating their achievements in helping good causes.
