Hopefully he managed to skedaddle before getting clattered by the tram's 'coo catcher', otherwise our front page headline the following day might have read, 'Snapper mashed by city tram.'
Despite the fact that the trams and cobbles have gone, the area remains little changed today, with the old petrol station on the left now operating as an MOT garage.
The monument, to the 1568 Battle of Langside, was erected in 1887. Both it and the church (1896) were designed by the architect Alexander Skirving.
The church, although suffering a devastating fire in 1989, was later reroofed and converted into a popular bar and diner.
