STV had bought and converted the old Theatre Royal into their new studios and were preparing to welcome a celebrity to cut the ribbon and declare the building open. Sadly, despite digging in books and online, we can find no trace of who their special guest was. Do you remember the big day?
Do you remember who opened the studios?
The theatre is much changed since those days. It lost its central tower, due to subsidence problems, and The Top Spot bar, on the corner of Cowcaddens Road, was later incorporated into the theatre.
That corner was recently demolished to make way for a new £11.5m development, featuring a new foyer, bars, box office, cloakrooms, toilets and hospitality suites.
