THIS Lister Auto Truck proved a transport of delight for these visitors to Glasgow's 1938 Empire Exhibition at Bellahouston Park.

With so much to see, these well-dressed chaps, all blazers, flannels and shirts and ties, hopped on for a whirl around the 178-acre site. And, if it rained, as, sadly, it did for much of the exhibition's run, the wee truck even had retractable awning to keep them dry.

Launched in 1925, the three-weeled auto truck was based on an industrial lawnmower design. With its tight turning circle, it proved a hit with industrial users and by 1938 more than 10,000 had been sold. There was also a rail version, which was used in mines and quarries.

Although it was cutting- edge technology at the time, we can't quite see Jeremy Clarkson test-driving one.
