Glasgow has a long and proud tradition of twinning with cities around the world.

Among its links are Havana in Cuba, Bethlehem in the Middle East, and the French port of Marseille.

These help to forge friendships and trading opprtunities with people and cultures around the world, and promote better understanding .

Back in September 1990, Russia was still part of the Soviet Union, and then as now, international relations could be strained.

But friendly meetings were still possible, and the town of Rostov-on-Don, another Glasgow twin, sent a group of young Cossack dancers to meet and perform with Scottish Ballet.

Here Katya Verzilove, Sasha Tishenco, Galya Shriptii, Zhenya Torov, Olya Mikhailets, Seryozha Psardiev, Tanya Veretelnik, and Shamil Utemishev show off their splendid national costumes.
