POLICE hunting a robber in connection with several raids at bookies in Glasgow have made an arrest.
A major investigation was launched after a spate of robberies over the past eight weeks. A police spokeswoman said a 32-year-old man had been arrested in relation to a number of the incidents. He was expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
It comes after weeks where no arrests were made, despite several public appeals for information.
Just last night a 10th betting shop was raided.
Cops armed with sub-machine guns guarded the scene. They swooped on Ladbrokes in Union Street, in Glasgow city centre, after a raid around 5pm.
A robber entered the shop and demanded cash last night. When staff refused the would-be thief ran off.
The alarm was raised immediately and a special armed unit was quickly on the scene.
During an eight-week robbery spree five banks have also been targeted during cash drop-offs.
Police believe a raid in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire, last Monday could be linked to previous bank incidents in the South Side.
Three masked men broke into the Bank of Scotland and brandished a knife at guards filling the bank's ATM. They made off with a five-figure sum.
That raid came hours after a man burst into a betting shop in Trongate, but the robber fled empty-handed.
