A GLASGOW man was beaten to death by a woman and her boyfriend after he insulted her, a court was told.
The High Court in Glasgow heard James Neilson, 59, was punched and kicked so viciously he suffered multiple rib fractures and massive internal bleeding.
His face and neck were badly bruised, his lips were split, a tooth was knocked out and his nose was dislocated.
Mr Neilson died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the main cause of death was blood loss.
Angela McGonigle, 27, of Midton Street, Springburn, and Robert Carey, 38, of Acredyke Road, Balornock, were originally charged with murdering Mr Neilson but the Crown accepted guilty pleas to culpable homicide.
They admitted killing Mr Neilson by kicking and punching him on the head and body on July 10, 2006, at a flat in Midton Street, Glasgow.
They will be sentenced next month.
Paul McBride QC, prosecuting, said McGonigle and Mr Neilson lived together for 15 months in a platonic but stormy relationship.
Mr McBride added: "She and Mr Neilson fell out and she intended to pack her bags. Mr Carey, her boyfriend, was also in the flat. There was a significant argument.
"Both accused attacked Mr Neilson by punching and kicking him on the head and body.
"He was very badly wounded."
Neighbours heard banging and shouting around 6.30pm - then it went quiet.
At 7.51pm, a 999 call for an ambulance was made by McGonigle from Mr Neilson's mobile phone.
Initially police thought McGonigle and Carey were simply witnesses, but forensic examination revealed Mr Neilson's blood on their clothing and on Carey's gold ring.
