THE SPFL have made themselves look farcical with their handling of the final fixtures in the Championship.

To suggest Rangers and Hearts should play the day after everyone else was crazy.

To then have to backtrack and switch the entire card to the Saturday was embarrassing, not least because the league didn't hold their hands up and admit they got it wrong.

Since the West Germany/Austria shenanigans when they were allowed to play their 1982 World Cup tie after the other two teams in their group had met, squeezing out Algeria as a result, everyone knows that, in situations like this, all teams have to play at the same time.

Nowhere else in the world would you see it even suggested one game goes ahead the next day.

To retain integrity, any competition has to be seen to be fair.

Besides, would it not be an ideal scenario for everyone to be going for the play-off places at the same time, generating huge excitement across the country?

Fans could keep track of events either on TV or radio, and it would draw so much attention to the game here.

I know broadcasters call the tune, but sometimes they have to be told when something is just not on.

Neil Doncaster is the front man for the SPFL. A lot of questions have been asked of him during his time in charge, but he's under more scrutiny than ever after this latest fiasco.
