The list of reasons why it's great to be in Glasgow right now is longer than Argyle Street, and it keeps on growing by the day.

This weekend is looking positively stellar, with more options than even last week's - and I quote - "biggest weekend in history".

The main event is at Glasgow Green on Saturday, when a carefully-curated selection of acts make up the East End Social's Glasgow Mixtape.

It features two stages of mavericks (Edwyn Collins, Lloyd Cole, Sydney Devine!), cutting-edge alternative acts (Errors, The Phantom Band) and indie legends (Bis, Malcolm Middleton, The Amphetameanies) - and it's all free and unticketed. Amazing doesn't quite cut it.

Continuing the cheapskate theme, there's a free all day party at Woodland's Arlington Bar on Sunday: it's hosted by cassette-only label Handpicked with beats from Bessa.

And at the other end of the spectrum, lavish burlesque bash Club Noir celebrates 10 years of decadence with its Commonwealth Carnival on Saturday.

It's an official Games event, so it's probably your best chance of getting off with a sprinter or lawn bowler before they all head home.

n Glasgow Mix Tape, Saturday, Glasgow Green, 10.30am - 9.30pm, free

n Club Noir, Saturday, O2 Academy, 9pm - 3am, £15.50

n Free All Day Party, Sunday, The Arlington Bar, 2pm - 1am, free

Label freaks

House and techno heads are similarly spoilt for choice.

Ostgut Ton is the techno label run by Berlin megaclub Berghain, and on Saturday they have their first ever showcase in Scotland.

It's a pretty big deal, with names like Marcel Dettman and Function justifying the hefty ticket price.

Platform 18 host their second street party of the summer down in Tradeston on the same night, with Spanish house man Julian Perez headlining alongside Londoner Rossko.

And tonight, before any of that, Sensu start the countdown to Dimensions Festival by tearing up the Subbie with local hero Jackmaster.

The Radio 1 favourite plays here just about every week, but with the incredible levels of love around for him it's always a big deal.

n Ostgut Ton Label Showcase with Marcel Dettman, Saturday, The Art School, 6pm - 4am, £25

n Platform 18 Street Party with Julian Perez, Saturday, West Street, 2pm - 10pm, £15

n Sensu Dimensions Festival Launch Party with Jackmaster, tonight, Sub Club, 11pm - 4am, £5

Out of Africa

So many great parties to mention, so little space left.

Tonight, obscure and wonderful African music takes over the CCA's Saramago Bar as Awesome Tapes From Africa returns.

Tomorrow, Morrissey's ego gets even bigger as the club night dedicated to him pitches up in The Admiral's basement.

On Saturday, it's high energy Italo Disco all night at Jim Lambie's Poetry Club as Shoot Your Shot present the best-named DJs of the weekend - Milky and Francois Pleasurechest - and on Sunday get your booty back to The Admiral for Melting Pot and Sadar Bahar's vinyl-only disco and funk workouts.

I'm salivating at the mere thought all this - less so the prospect of Monday morning.

Bring it on.

n Awesome Tapes From Africa and guests, tonight, CCA, 11pm - 4am, £5

n Strangeways, tomorrow, The Admiral, 8pm - 1am, £5

n Shoot Your Shot, Saturday, The Poetry Club, 10pm - 2am, £4

n Melting Pot Bank Holiday Special, Sunday, The Admiral, 11pm - 4am, £10
