KICKING off this long-awaited Bank Holiday weekend is Love Action, a brand new three-day festival originally planned for The Arches.

It's since been moved to SWG3 as the fall-out from the former's switch to over-21s only continues, but it's safe to say that Glasgow's house lovers are no less keen.

The festivities begin tonight with minimal techno pioneer Marc Houle, boundary-pushing Londoner Daniel Avery and the evergreen Erol Alkan - not bad for a first night.

Tomorrow Bristol bass man Eats Everything headlines alongside New York house legend David Morales, and Juan Atkins, the originator of Detroit techno.

The late Frankie Knuckles - the beloved Chicago pioneer, who passed away suddenly less than three weeks ago - was second on the bill here, so expect emotion and tributes aplenty come 3am.

Any punters able to drag themselves out of bed for a third consecutive night have the mysterious MK, English veteran John Digweed and New Yorker Galcher Lustwerk, alongside local talent such as the Southside's Dixon Avenue Basement Jams.

Such is the quality of the carefully-curated line-up, it's hard to put it any better than the Facebook commenter who simply said: "Ready to do my nut for this." We all are, man. We all are.

l Love Action, tonight-Sat, SWG3, 7pm-3am, one night £17/2 nights £29/3 nights £39

l Pressure Soma Special, Sunday, SWG3, 10pm-3am, £12

THE multi-talented Mancunian Mr Scruff isn't just a DJ: he's a built a whole brand around his eclectic output.

He runs Ninja Tune records, designs and draws his rudimentary album artwork and stage visuals, has a burgeoning tea empire, and runs his own café in Manchester's trendy Northern Quarter.

As close as you can get to a modern-day Edwardian eccentric, his live appearances are marathon affairs: lasting hours and taking the crowd on an intrepid musical journey.

Expect more of the same on Sunday when he plays Melting Pot, the city's foremost disco night, for the first time.
