ANTI-SOCIAL neighbours are more than a nuisance, they make life a misery and in extreme cases can even be very violent.

The effort by Maryhill Housing Association and Strathclyde Police appears to have made a significant difference to crime in the area, giving people back the peace they want and deserve to live in.

For some all it takes is a visit from a housing official to warn them of the consequences of their behaviour can have on their tenancy, but for others police involvement is the only way they will change.

Others are doing similar initiatives with Glasgow Housing Association working closely with Strathclyde Police to improve safety in their communities.

These campaigns are effective in targeting offenders and helping people feel safer, however in the longer term everyone has a role to play in building safe communities.

Procedures exist for dealing with unruly neighbours and only by reporting concerns can action be taken, and the more people who get involved the more successful enforcement will be

These campaigns deserve all our support to let the anti social element know they are not welcome and they must change or action will be taken against them.

They must change their ways or find another city to live in.
