THE thousands who took part in the East End 5k fun run, are helping make Glasgow a healthier city.

The event in Tollcross Park is in its sixth year and gets bigger with every event, encouraging people of all ages to get out and get active.

While the city is renowned for the big showcase runs, notably the Great Scottish Run and Women's 10k, these smaller community-based events are every bit as important.

Getting people to take the first steps to a healthier lifestyle through exercise with smaller target distances is paying off with more people participating and improving their health with every step.

The East End Healthy Living Centre deserves congratulations for another great day and for their continued commitment to work to turn around some of the most challenging health statistics in the country.

The level of support they got once again proves it is worth it and slowly but surely many people in the East End, like other parts of the city are willing to make the effort to improve their health.

Creating the run, cycle and fun day altogether gets as many people as possible taking part and is building for the future.

With events like the East End 5k Glasgow is on the road to being a fitter city where future generations live longer and happier lives.
