I NOTE your article regarding the call to block off a lane to reduce anti-social behaviour (June 4).
It saddens me that Glasgow City Council isn't playing its part and is standing in the way of the local community.
Why don't John Mason, the local SNP MSP, and Strathclyde Police follow good practice, like Westminster has done, and create a 'Gating Orders Bill' at Holyrood, to restrict access and help deal with anti-social behaviour?
A good example of this is done by Liverpool City Council.

THE taxi drivers who block up the rank outside Queen Street train station should be first in line for charm lessons ahead of the Commonwealth Games (June 5).
I left the station's Dundas Street exit this morning and heard a torrent of expletives coming from one hackney driver who had congregated with his colleagues outside their cabs awaiting fares.
It was a rude awakening at 8.55am for me – goodness knows what tourists would think, as he certainly didn't need subtitles.
I'm pretty sure that particular stand is for only five taxis, but there's often more than a dozen packed there most mornings, aggressively driving at pedestrians who are just trying to cross the street.
It's not a warm welcome to Glasgow

I AM informed begging is prohibited in railway stations
Why doesn't the council follow this lead and extend this to city centre streets?
Nothing seems to be getting done and, if anything, the problem seems to be getting worse.

Shawlands bid
I WAS pleased to read about the plan to spend cash on reviving Shawlands (June 5).
This sort of investment is badly needed to give the area new lease of life.
Shawlands definitely has potential, and I just hope the money is spent wisely,
