I'LL wager that this latest development at the greenbelt site in Newton Mearns is no surprise to many East Renfrewshire residents (Evening Times, May 16).

The council has a history of doing as it pleases, often going against earlier statements it has made.

As an East Renfrewshire resident, I am deeply concerned at what has transpired on this site. Why else would heavy machinery be on land owned by developers?

Be worried people of East Renfrewshire, because pretty soon there won't be a blade of grass left for your children to play on.

The newly elected council, it appears, is carrying on as before with no regard to the people whose lives it will affect!

Not very bright

WHY are shops still selling laser pens? (Hunt on as laser thugs target police, May 16).

If anyone has a good excuse for owning one I've yet to hear it.

Like flick knives, baseball bats and pit bull type dogs, they seem to be the preserve of young thugs who think it a great laugh to shine the things in other people's eyes.

It's high time they were taken off the shelves.

Locals pitch-in

GLASGOW Life need to get a life.

It's idiotic of them to threaten police action against locals who want to clean up the running track and tennis courts in Maryhill (May 16).

Perhaps if Glasgow Life did the job they are paid to do, volunteers wouldn't have to pick up the slack and do their work for them.

Foul success

I PASS a dog fouling 'hot spot' area on a regular basis and noticed in the Evening Times there was number to contact 08000 277027 to 'Say something, See something'.

I called this number, giving a location of the area and description of the offending foulers.

To my surprise, Glasgow City Council litter wardens started to patrol the area and it has made a big difference.
