LIKE others I was shocked to read about the recent fatal accident on the A9 involving two HGVs.
Given the current financial climate, it could be years before this road is upgraded. Why not, in the interim, erect one of those 3ft concrete barriers in the centre of the single carriageway?
This sort of structure exists on the A8 between Baillieston and Newhouse.
And it is used extensively in America.
It stops vehicles crossing on to the opposite carriageway and also acts as an anchor for street lights.
It's got to be cheaper and quicker than a full upgrade to dual carriageway status.

Cost of jubilee
AT a time of record unemployment especially among the young, the extravagance of the last few weeks has been absolutely obscene.
The whole jubilee festivity is soley for the glorification of London and for which the remainder of the country is paying through the nose.
Another patent example of English arrogance and London domination.
Yet we kow-tow to the establishment as subjects will always do.

Fuelling anger
I can't understand the Tories slapping another 3p on a litre of fuel.
For some families, this may be the last straw. When is the Chancellor going to help motorists?
High petrol prices are a catastrophic vote-loser.
There must be other ways to find more money without hitting fuel again.

Flats furore
I CAN'T believe yet more student flats are set to be be built in Glasgow (ET, Friday).
It seems like any time a building is knocked down or revamped it is turned into flats for students.
Do the authorites which give permission for the building to be rented out to students take into consideration other residents in the area who will be affected by these plans?
I think it's time to start restricting the amount of student flats in the city.
