Looking after stars at pop festival will be hair-raising experience for Glasgow salon staff
PETE Docherty and Bruno Mars popped in for a trim and Florence Welch asked for tumbling curls on her fiery tresses.
In just a few days, a team of Glasgow's top hairdressers will be working their magic on some of the biggest names in music before they take to the stage at T In The Park.
For the seventh consecutive year, stylists from Rainbow Room International in George Square will be tending to the hair of big name acts performing at the festival, including the Stone Roses, Jessie J, Kasabian, Emilie Sande and The Darkness.
Their temporary salon will be in the VIP area of the main Artists' Village.
Over the three-day festival stylists will go through about 50 towels, 100 gowns, 10 cans of dry shampoo, 10 cans of hairspray, six tubs of styling cream, six tubs of styling putty, two bottles of serum, 12 bottles of 'dust it', more than 300 kirbies, 200 fine pins and 10- 12 hair pieces.
A total of 22 hairstylists will be cutting, curling, straightening and backcoming with four hairdryers, four straightening irons, two sets of tongs and one box of heated rollers.
And on Sunday after 7pm, thirsty VIPs will enjoy four bottles of champagne, two litres of Jack Daniels, one litre of white wine, one litre of red wine and a case of Stella.
Dylan Brittain, franchisee of Rainbow Room International George Square, says most stars take advantage of the salon's award-winning expertise.
However, Dylan was disappointed he did not get his hands on Beyonce's luscious locks at last year's event because she had her own hair and make-up entourage.
He said: "Artists love T In The Park, they are always telling us it is their favourite festival.
"They love the Scottish crowds and are so impressed with the backstage services – they feel we go the extra mile.
"Artists who don't necessarily need their hair done often come to us just for the 'Glasgow' banter, which is a compliment.
"The hairdresser for Tulisa (Tula Contostavlos of N-Dubz) missed their flight last year so she had to borrow The Saturdays' make-up and pulled the Rainbow Room International team in at the last minute to style her hair.
"It is not uncommon for artists to leave big tips – one of my clients gave me £200 because they were so happy with their hair.
"Other clients show their appreciation in other ways, as Sarah-Jane Campbell found out when she was scooped up into the arms of Fun Lovin' Criminals front man Huey Morgan!"
