A SUMMER holiday programme kicks off across the city to help get people healthy and testing out sporting activities.

Glasgow Sport has organised the Wee Sports Sites in addition to usual holiday events.

Starting on Friday, they promise to be packed with Commonwealth-themed events for children and families during the rest of the summer holidays.

The highlight at each of the Wee Sports sites will be free Commonwealth Club Sports Days and Family Extravaganza Days, offering sports sessions, classes and activities at six Glasgow Club venues: Castlemilk, Drumoyne, Donald Dewar, Easterhouse, Pollok and Springburn.

Sports Days will be full of action-packed sport sessions for five to 16-year-olds, providing opportunities to try out different activities.

Sessions will be led by local sport club volunteers so there will be plenty of advice and tips.

And Family Days will have activities for all ages, including a pre-five area, health and fitness zone, multi-sports and arts and crafts areas.

There will also be a health and fitness timetable full of Commonwealth-based classes for adults.

Gary Watt, sports development officer with Glasgow Life, has been involved in organising Wee Sports Sites activities.

He said: "What a wonderful time to be involved in sport and Glasgow Sport wants to bring the Games to all our communities.

"The Commonwealth Club Sports Days and Family Extravaganza Days will hopefully inspire people to get involved and maybe find the city's future sport stars."

Events are at Pollok on July 25, at Drumoyne on July 26 and 29, at Springburn on July 26 and 28, at Easterhouse on July 27 and 30, at Donald Dewar Centre are on July 31 and August 2, and at Castlemilk on August 1 and 3.
