IF you are reluctant to get into the festive spirit, a trip to the SECC this week will soon sort that out.

According to events director Dan Sewell, visitors will be hit by Christmas when they walk through the doors of the Country Living Fair.

On from today to Sunday, the annual event is a must for anyone bored with internet shopping and looking for gift ideas that are different to the usual high street offerings.

"We have the tastes and smells of Christmas as well as the personalities in the shape of all the designer makers who are exhibiting with us," says Dan.

"You are speaking to the people who have made these products and displaying their wares that are perfect for Christmas gifts - and that's what makes the show different.

"It's a unique experience to meet the people behind the companies.

"We also have a Craft and Create Room offering free workshops to make Christmas decorations, learn how to crochet and watch demonstrations on gift wrapping."

Guest chefs, including John Quigley of Red Onion, Neil Forbes of Cafe St Honore and Paul Wedgwood of Wedgwood The Restaurant, will be giving professional tips, advice and demonstrations, while author Karon Grieve will be showing visitors how to make some foodie gifts.

Sheila Jones will be giving cake decorating and baking tips and Fiona Sciolti of Sciolti Chocolates will be testing visitors' willpower with her chocolate demonstrations.

For the foodies the temptations and treats are endless from the exclusive collection of food exhibitors supplying authentic regional delicacies such as gourmet sausages and hams, local cheeses and pate, Christmas cakes, puddings and chocolates, to create a delicious festive deli.

Nearly 300 of the country's finest craftsmen and women will be gathered under one roof to offer unique gifts, inspired ideas and decorations to bring magical Christmas sparkle to every home.

Visitors can source beautiful decorations and original gifts from gorgeous garlands and beautiful baubles, to glassware, scented candles and stylish cards. Arts and craft lovers can pick up haberdashery, ribbons, fabrics, sewing kits and craft essentials.

"Over the past few years the show has been getting bigger and better," says Dan. "It is something we work hard on. We're expecting about 18,000 people in four days."

As well as the Cookery Theatre and Craft and Create Room there is the DFS Lifestyle Theatre where experts will offer advice on how to make the most of your home and garden over the festive period, with talks and demonstrations, including designing table settings and creating home-made goodies for a Christmas hamper.
