THE Young Blackhill Team were out in force when city councillor Pat Lally and local minister Rev Alastair Moodie went walkabout in the scheme in 1975.
Mr Lally, a Gorbals boy who later trained as a tailor, had the measure of his hard-pressed constituents and was always prepared to fight on their behalf.
The scheme, in north east Glasgow, was built in the early 1930s on the site of a former golf course, to accommodate the many families moved from the slums of the old Garngad. Sadly, the Blackhill homes, most of which were built at a cost of just £250 each, were of low quality and soon began to suffer problems.
Cut off the rest of the city by roads, rail lines and factories, these cheery wee tearaways found their fun playing on the wreck of a burnt-out van.
