THE traditional Fair holiday used to see people in Glasgow head for the seaside or countryside in their droves, with train stations packed as they left.
Central Station in 1959 shows a scene that was repeated each year over decades as parents clinging equally tightly to suitcases and children dressed in their Sunday best waited patiently for their journey to begin. More recently the crowds have been at the city's airport as destinations have become further afield.
But this year, the scene will be different, with more people arriving in the city than leaving it during the first week of Fair Fortnight.
With Glasgow the centre of world's sporting attention, lots of cultural activities and a good forecast to kick off the Commonwealth Games who would want to be anywhere else?
