PARENTS were outraged after tickets for a live version of children's TV favourite In the Night Garden were cancelled at the last minute.

Hundreds of mums, dads and children were left furious after they arrived for the first show in a two-week long run at an inflatable showdome in Queen's Park in Glasgow's south side on Saturday but were turned away at the door.

Show producers blamed Glasgow City council for telling them on the morning of the show that seating would have to be cut from 440 to 216 for the entire fortnight due to a "technical discrepancy".

Glasgow City Council said the action had been taken due to safety concerns.

Producers Minor Entertainment hit the phones and emails to break the bad news to parents that their tickets had to be cancelled in a bid to prevent a repeat of Saturday's fiasco.

Yesterday's show kicked off at 4pm and no-one was turned away at the door.

Show workers said yesterday they had managed to contact parents to offer them alternative dates or their money back.

A member of staff said: "For the council to tell us that they were halving the number of people allowed in at the last minute is out of order. We are talking about very young children here being really disappointed.

"Minor Entertainment has been working all out to make sure that parents don't travel to Glasgow and then are turned away at the door.

"The people who booked recently were the first to be contacted and offered another date or their money back. Everyone seemed very understanding and realise it's not our fault."

But angry customers still took to social media sites to vent their anger.

One Twitter user wrote: "Well done, disappointing hundreds of toddlers due to your last minute restriction on In The Night Garden. They hashtagged GCC - for Glasgow City council - and added: #Makingchildrencry

Another tweeted: "I'm absolutely appalled. My god-daughter loves In the Night Garden".

Another commented: "I watched a wee boy with special needs being turned away this morning on the day of his birthday how bad is that! Disgusting Glasgow council."

The BBC's In the Night Garden features characters Iggle Piggle, Makka Pakka, Upsy Daisy and Tombliboo Ooo.
