A GLASGOW politician has overcome the heartbreak of two life-threatening ectopic pregnancies by taking on the new role of proud mother.
City councillor Jennifer Dunn has given birth to her first baby and she and little David, who weighed in at 8lb and 2oz, are both healthy and well.
The Scottish Nationalist, who represents the East Centre area, gave birth at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital less than two weeks ago to the delight of her husband Craig Mackay.
The 35-year-old freelance graphic designer had spent the past few years as SNP councillor for Glasgow's Anderston/City ward but lost his seat at the recent elections.
His 30-year-old wife, who recently graduated from Strathclyde University with a Master of Science degree, said: "Both Craig and I are absolutely delighted to welcome David to the world. Bringing him home was the happiest day of my life so far.
"Polling day for the local council elections was when I was 37 weeks pregnant. Campaigning when I was heavily pregnant was challenging but I had a fantastic team around me."
Jennifer, husband and baby David live in Dennistoun and she added: "Having had two ectopic pregnancies before David, I'd like to thank the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust for all their help and support during both the bad times and this successful pregnancy.
"They do an enormous amount of good work and I'm pleased to be able to highlight this. I'd also like to thank staff at the Princess Royal Maternity for looking after us both."
Jennifer is taking maternity leave but plans to return to full council duties after the school summer holidays.
