A GRAFFITI mural, painted on the walls of a 13th century castle in Ayrshire, is to be removed to protect the building.
The £20,000 work, on Kelburn Castle at Largs, was completed by a group of Brazilian graffiti artists in 2007.
It features a pyschedelic cartoons depicting surreal urban culture.
Engineers have discovered the harling on the wall on which the mural is painted is causing damage to the castle's stonework.
The Earl of Glasgow, Patrick Boyle, who owns the castle, has agreed to its removal.
The Earl, whose family has owned the castle for 800 years, said he was devastated the mural will have to be removed but his priority is maintaining the fabric of the building.
