Feathers have been flying in Glasgow over anti-social behaviour - by a parrot shouting 'Taxi for Govan Road'.

Police were called to a house in the South Side after neighbours made complaints about noise. When officers got there they found the culprit was a parrot repeatedly screeching bookings in the manner of a cab dispatcher.

It is understood the bird used to live in a city taxi office, which is where it picked up the patter.

A police spokeswoman would only say: "Officers were called to a report of a noise complaint on Thursday, July 5. I can confirm an incident involving a parrot took place."

But on Strathclyde Police's Govan Twitter account, a community officer wrote: "Noise complaint report, culprit turned out to be a parrot that used to live in a taxi office.

"It's no wind-up, you see all sorts in this line of work. My favourite call this week."

Parrots, whose best-known trick is to mimic humans, are social birds and need a form of communication to be able to interact with those around them.
