A MAIN route into Glasgow city centre has been closed after fears a row of shops could collapse.
The shops, in George Street at its junction with High Street, were yesterday found to be unsafe and the westbound side of the road was closed last night.
Glasgow City Council building control bosses immediately sealed off the area and ordered the block be demolished.
The dangerous building, which includes a takeaway restaurant and two empty shop units, has caused the closure of the road from High Street to Shuttle Street.
Last night council bosses said it was at this stage unclear how long demolition works would last but a spokesman added: "The road has been closed for safety reasons and is likely to remain closed until demolition works are complete."
Diversions are in place.
