A REVAMPED swimming pool will finally reopen at the end of this month – four weeks after the promised opening date.

The new-look Lagoon Swimming Pool in Paisley, which has been closed for several months for refurbishment as part of a £7.2million revamp of the leisure centre, will open its doors on Saturday, July 28.

The Evening Times reported in May that Renfrewshire Leisure, the management trust that runs sports and leisure centres locally, had hoped to have the pool opened for the start of the school holidays.

But it now says the work took longer than expected.

However, bosses are promising the wait will be worth it.

Chief executive Joyce McKellar said: "People will certainly notice a difference when they come along to the pool after it re-opens.

"It has always been very popular with people of all ages and I am sure everyone will be impressed.

"A lot of money has been spent on machinery behind the scenes that people will not see, but they will certainly notice the difference in the environment, which will not be as hot and sticky."

Bosses at the Lagoon have decided to organise a Paisley Fair Special the following weekend, by offering families the chance to go for a swim for only £3 and a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for youngsters.

The deal for two adults and two children is a saving of £6 because the normal price of a family ticket is £9.

Youngsters under 18 paying to go for a swim will get one friend in free, saving £2.75.

The special deals will be available on August 4, 6 and 6.

Bosses say the pool has a new smoother, faster flume, while the pool area and showers have had a makeover.

New machinery has been installed to control water temperature, filtration and improve air quality.

A new cafe is being opened in the reception area, which will also have free Wi-Fi available for customers.
