WORKERS at a city centre hotel are set to sizzle when the Olympic Torch Relay reaches the city.
Three staff from the Holiday Inn Theatreland have been chosen to carry the iconic flame through the streets tomorrow and Saturday, and all live in the Glasgow area.
Chef de Partie Jordan Shane, 21, of Summerston, successfully fought cancer to carve out a career in the hospitality sector and said: "The Olympics is a very special event and for it to be held in Great Britain and for me to be part of it is something I will never forget and something I can tell my kids when I'm older."
He carries the torch today, while Saturday will be a memorable day for his two colleagues George Macmillan and and Maureen Rodger.
George from Ruchill is the hotel's 44-year-old guest service manager. But in his spare time he's raised tens of thousands of pounds for charities including Autism Awareness, Give Kids the World and Parkinsons.
He said: "It is just an absolute priviledge to have been selected. There are so many other people who deserve this opportunity. But I'm thrilled to be one of them."
Also carrying the flame on Saturday will be Maureen of Thornliebank. The 31-year-old assistant housekeeper will be cheered on by her young son and said: "I am so honoured and proud to be running with the torch. It's very exciting and my little boy is so proud of his mum."
Hotel owner Maurice Taylor is thrilled his team are taking part and said: "All our staff are committed to being the best."
Holiday Inn is a major Games sponsor. Of 8000 torchbearers, 800 are employees of such "stakeholders" including the International Olympic Committee.
