A MAN is fighting for life after being found unconscious in a lane outside a pub.

The 43-year-old was discovered by passers-by in Marshall's Lane, Paisley, early yesterday morning.

He was taken to the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital with a head injury, but today he was transferred to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital. Police say they do not know how he was hurt.

Detective Inspector Julie Henry, of Paisley CID, said: "We have yet to clarify how he came about his injuries.

"We know he had been in the Turf Tavern on Saturday evening but do not know if he was in the company of others. He was wearing a blue top with a motif and blue jeans.

"Marshall's Lane is literally outside the Tavern and I would appeal to anyone who was in the Tavern and has any information that could assist in this investigation tocall us 0141 435 1012."

The man was found at 12.10am and Ms Henry added: "Many people would have been leaving the pub around midnight and may have seen the man in the lane.

"They may be able to throw some light on what happened to him.".
