GEORGE Sqaure has been transformed into a sea of Olympic colour.
Giant 30ft banners were erected yesterday and today around the square showing that Glasgow is a centre for the London Olympics football tournament.
They have been erected in preparation for the arrival of the Olympic torch in less than two weeks.
As reported in last night's Evening Times passers-by have already caught a brief glimpse of the rings in George Square while workers installed the famous symbol.
But they was soon under wraps to wait for an official unveiling before the torch arrives in the city on June 8.
To mark the torch's arrival singers Eliza Doolittle and Emeli Sande will perform at a free concert in the square. The torch will then tour Scotland.
The rings arrived as a row raged over a ban on flying the Saltire at Hampden during the Olympic football matches.
Olympic rules state that Scottish athletes perform for Great Britain, meaning only the Union flag can be officially flown over Scotland's national stadium.
Complaints have been filed with Lord Coe, chairman of the London 2012 organising committee.
But bosses said spectators were free to bring their own flags into the stadium.
