PUPILS played host to a very special visitor as Glasgow schools look to team up with their counterparts in Namibia.

High Commissioner George Liswaniso, from the African country, toured five schools in the city to find out about education in Glasgow.

And he spent time at Merrylee Primary, in the South Side, speaking to pupils and to headteacher Liz Mahindru. Primary five pupils at the school gave a presentation on what they had learned about Namibia before putting Mr Liswaniso through his paces with a series of questions.

After his visit, depute headteacher Caroline Deans took two pupils from the school to listen to Mr Liswaniso talk at Glasgow City Chambers. The partnership would see an exchange between schools in Glasgow and Namibia with chances for pupils to go to Africa.
