A DAD-of-onE who raped a teenage girl minutes after meeting her has been jailed for six years.
The sex attack carried out by 22-year-old Steven McElwee on his 19-year-old victim in the stairwell of a block of flats in Johnstone, Renfrewshire was captured on CCTV.
At the High Court in Glasgow temporary judge Rita Rae QC told McElwee: "Rape is an appalling crime and in this case you were convicted of raping a young woman who was obviously very drunk and therefore vulnerable.
"You forced yourself on her and uniquely in my experience not only was she forced to give evidence in the High Court, but also had to view the whole act as it had been captured on close-circuit television.
"One can only imagine the effect that must have had on her. Despite this you continued to protest your innocence."
After a four-day trial at the High Court in Paisley. McElwee, of Johnstone, was convicted of raping the girl at flats in the town's Provost Close, on October 16, 2010.
He admitted having sex with the teenager, but had claimed it was consensual.
Defence counsel Thomas Ross told the court that McElwee still insists he is innocent.
Mr Ross added: "He has no previous convictions of a sexual nature. He has been in a relationship for eight years and has a three-year-old son."
The victim's ordeal followed a night-out in Johnstone with her stepmother and pals.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been to pubs in Johnstone.
After leaving the Globe bar she came across McElwee, who initially appeared friendly, but then lured her into the flats at Provost Close before he raped her.
McElwee had claimed he moved inside with the girl only after having asked her if she wanted to have sex when their kissing became "heated" outside.
After her ordeal, the girl was found crying in the street by her taxi driver father.
As McElwee was led away to begin his sentence members of the victim's family shouted "scum" at him.
