THEY have played some of the biggest venues in the world, sold millions of albums and had countless chart hits.

And in July, some of the best known stars of the 1980s will take the stage in Glasgow Green for their only Scottish date.

The line-up includes Rick Astley, whose Never Gonna Give You was the UK's top selling single of 1987.

He will be joined by former Go-Go's lead singer Belinda Carlisle, "Wherever I Lay My Hat" singer Paul Young, Toyah Willcox, Curiosity Killed the Cat, T'Pau and The Real Thing, who scored a No.1 in 1976 with You To Me Are Everything.

The gig, on Saturday July 21, co-incides with the hugely popular Glasgow Show and will round off a top weekend of music.

The night before, the reformed Wet Wet Wet will perform at Glasgow Green to mark their 25th anniversary.

The Glasgow Show, on Saturday July 21 and Sunday July 22, opens each day at 11.30am, with activities including extreme sports, dance, street theatre, countryside activities and children's funfair rides running until 5.30pm.

Tickets cost £12 for two adults and two children under 16, £5 for an adult, £3 for concessions, £2 for Kidz Card and Young Scot card holders, with under fives admitted free.

Organisers stress tickets for the Glasgow Show do not allow access to the music events on the Friday or Saturday night.

Brian Devlin, the city council's executive director of land and environmental services, said: "The Glasgow Show is always a great weekend in the city's summer calendar.

"The addition of two huge gigs on Friday and Saturday night can only make it bigger and better."
