A BRUTAL thug who raped one woman and sexually assaulted another within 15 minutes in a city centre street has been jailed for 10 years.

Scott Kerr, 22, was on a Christmas night out when he carried out the attacks near Glasgow's Broomie-law, last year.

Prosecutors have branded the assaults "terrifying" and said they shocked the people of Glasgow and Scotland.

Kerr dragged his first victim, a 20-year-old woman, into a car park in James Watt Street and assaulted her with intent to rape in the early hours of December 21.

Just minutes later, he raped a 22-year- old woman on a ramp into a nearby underground car park after threatening to kill her and forcing her to the ground.

Kerr, who moved from East Kilbride to Dundee shortly before he carried out the attacks, admitted his guilt last month.

Judge Lady Stacey today told him he was a danger to women as she imposed an extended sentence, meaning he will be supervised for a further five years when he is freed from jail.

Passing sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh, she told Kerr: "What you did that night will have a lasting effect on two women who did nothing wrong.

"They were simply walking home when you chose to attack them, one after the other, within 15 minutes.

"Your actions were very violent and very frightening for the women."

The court heard how the call centre worker knocked his first victim to the ground, intending to rape her.

Minutes later he forced his second victim down a ramp, threatened to kill her, forced her to the ground and raped her.

The court heard that his rape victim was on the phone to a friend when Kerr attacked.

The horrified friend heard Kerr say to the woman in a clear and calm voice that if she screamed he would kill her.

Both of the attacks, captured on CCTV, were on young women who were strangers to Kerr.

Passing sentence, Lady Stacey said she had to take note of a sentencing report which said Kerr was at high risk of re-offending.

She added: "You have shown from your behaviour that you are a danger to women."
