Glasgow is one of the most festive place in the UK according to online retailer Amazon.

The city made a list of most Christmassy towns and cities in the UK coming in at ninth place.

Bristol is the most festive place in the UK, with more purchases of Christmas items per head than anywhere else in the country.

The city's residents bought more festive products, including tinsel, selection boxes, decorations and Father Christmas costumes, in the past year from Amazon.co.uk than any other place in the UK.

In second place was Southampton and third was Peterborough, which also topped the list for the area that bought the most Christmas music per capita.

Fourth and fifth places were taken by Nottingham and Doncaster respectively.

Amazon's list of Christmas items also features fairy lights, mistletoe, stockings, advent calendars and Christmas jumpers.

The trees of Milton Keynes will be well adorned after its inhabitants bought the most tinsel in the country.

Doncaster's residents have the dubious honour of being the nation's greediest, buying the most Christmas selection boxes.

In Exeter, there are plenty of socks wrapped up under the tree with locals purchasing more pairs per person than the rest of the UK.

Xavier Garambois, vice president of EU Retail at Amazon, said: "From festive sing songs in Peterborough to decorating the tree in Milton Keynes, customers across the UK certainly seem to be embracing the Christmas spirit and spreading Christmas cheer."
