Police were called to Midland Street, near Central Station, after a man was found with serious head injuries early today.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said they were called out at around 5am after the man was discovered.
She said an investigation was ongoing as officers established how he came to suffer the injuries.
The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
