MORE than a dozen Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, residents have been evacuated after reports of a gas leak in the area.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at Hamilton Road at around 12:45pm on Thursday to investigate a strong smell of gas.
Thirteen locals have been taken to nearby Dalziel High School as a precaution and Hamilton Road between Muir Street and the West Hamilton Street roundabout has been closed off.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 12:45 pm today we received a report of a strong smell of gas at Hamilton road in Motherwell.
"There has been no explosion and emergency services are at the scene."
Engineers are still on site carrying out tests, but the cause of the leak is still unknown.
