COMMONWEALTH Games silver medallist Chris Baillie knows a thing or two about making it to the top of the athletics world.

And the 31-year-old, who won silver in the 110m hurdles at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, hopes Matthew and Christopher achieve their dreams of playing at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Glasgow.

He said: "I was involved in European and World junior championships and it was a great stepping stone. Youth events give the athletes a taste of what big championships are like and it also gives you an idea of where you stand and who you will have to beat at senior level when you eventually get there.

"The Youth Olympic Games is a great thing for the sport. Everyone aspires to be at the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games is a great way to help young people test themselves at the top level.

"It would be even better if it came to Glasgow because it's a great city to compete in. The crowds are unbelievable and it's not very often you get the chance to compete in a major tournament on home soil.

"My advice to young athletes would be to make sure you are enjoying it and to keep the Youth Olympic Games in mind. Having something like that on the horizon is a great inspiration and motivation."

Chris, from Old Kilpatrick, has his eye on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. He said: "The next two years I will be focused on training to qualify for and then compete at Glasgow 2014. It will be my last chance of competing at a major championships."
