GLASGOW has had a remarkable year in 2014 with tens of thousands of new visitors coming to the city.

The Commonwealth Games has been the undoubted catalyst for the increase in tourism activity, and not only this year - the millions who viewed the city through their TV screens will hopefully provide a new wave in the coming years.

The new hotels, roads improvements, subway and other works completed or ongoing had the Games as a target and it will all bode well for welcoming more people in the future.

Other events have followed, with the MTV Europe Awards reaching a new audience for the city and the Games facilities mean a host of big international championships can come to the city, for swimming, athletics, gymnastics and much more.

Alongside all the physical work that has been going on to allow the city to welcome all these new friends, there is one crucial factor that has always been evident, which came to the fore during the games and which is our city's biggest selling point.

It has now become an accepted fact. People Make Glasgow.
