THE investment planned for the expansion of the Buchanan Galleries is good for Glasgow and is proof of the confidence developers have in the city.

However, aspects of the plans have attracted criticism from a considerable number of people, specifically the demolition of the Concert Hall steps.

How the council proceeds is of great importance as the views they have sought must be taken into account.

If it is decided upon reflection that the plans would be better if there were adjustments then there should be no fears over doing just that.

It needs to also be remembered that for the city to maintain and enhance its status as a retail destination, which is vital with so many jobs and a large part of the economy is dependent on it, then changes sometimes need to happen to compete with other cities and out of town malls.

It needs to be ensured this is not seen as a sham consultation exercise and people are listened to.

When change takes place it must be to the benefit of the city and the views expressed must be considered.
