HALLOWE'EN might not be most people's choice for wandering around an old graveyard looking to clean the place up.

But it will take more than that to spook our Streets Ahead campaigners, who are on a mission to restore the Southern Necropolis from a rundown, vandalised burial ground to a place where people feel safe paying their respects.

Thanks to the kind spirits of Streets Ahead partners City Charitable Trust, Clean Glasgow, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Glasgow Housing Association and Scotrail the group has been given cash help to achieve its aims.

The Streets Ahead projects come in many guises but all have something in common - the desire to make their community a better and brighter place to live.

The objective is to change the city street by street but that includes parks community halls, gardens and yes even ancient cemeteries.

While many people complain about the state of some graveyards the SNAG group will be out cleaning up the graves and tending to the grounds. Well done, we say and once they pull this trick off, the old historic graveyard will once again look a treat.
