BECAUSE of a good autumn, it's said our homes are going to be invaded by giant spiders.
Let's hope not. About two weeks ago I had one in my house almost the size of my hand, but here's a good way in getting rid of them. Spiders don't like the smell of conkers from the horse chestnut tree so put one in your cupboards, garage and generally around the house and you shouldn't have any bother.

Tough on Alex
READER Eric Williamson (Letters, September 24) criticises Alex Salmond who he claimed "resigned in a huff" - a very subjective view. Politicians of all parties are notorious for hanging on like grim death. Yes, it wasn't all about him but he felt it was best to make way for a fresh face. Not many Westminster politicians behave so honourably.

Let's move on
The response of John Fegan (Letters, September 24) to a previous letter is typical of the paranoia being spouted by the Yes men.
Surely the most important thing to do is accept an overwhelming defeat in the referendum, get their house in order and get on with their fortunate position of being British.
The paragraph beginning "the contemptuous breaking of powers etc," is nothing short of farcical considering no promises have been broken.
At least Nicola Sturgeon appears to be willing to talk, while standing her ground. Salmond has stirred up a hornet's nest with his rhetoric and would be better looking out his pipe and slippers, instead of making "bullets" for others to take forward.
Better Together is the motto and that includes ALL Scots and residents in our country.

Cruel thugs
WHAT kind of mindless thugs would stoop so low as to vandalise a memorial to a murdered woman (Evening Times, September 25)? They can't have an ounce of compassion for how they add to the suffering of Moira Jones' family.
