I AGREE with the recent correspondent who feels that Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson should bring the council's free city centre parking jamboree for top officials and councillors to an end.

It simply cannot be justified. These officials should be told they must either pay for their spaces at the rates charged by adjacent council car parks like the rest of is or they should give up their spaces to other council workers who will pay these fees.

The same criteria should be applied to free city-centre parking spaces granted to top officials in council arms-length organisations and other public bodies such as Transport Scotland, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and the police.

Council leader Gordon Matheson should make sure that public officials working in the city are given no financial incentive to pollute the city centre by bringing their cars into town and parking in free publicly funded parking spaces. It is a complete nonsense which Gordon Matheson should stop immediately.

CONSIDERING the debate around page three in the past week, it now seems another issue has reared its head.

We had a female tennis player asked to give us a twirl after her match in Australia. Is this the 1970s, are we on the Generation Game?

Would Andy Murray or Rafa Nadal be asked to do a twirl after a match - I don't think so.

No matter how far we have come with equality, it can still be a case of two steps back. I hope the TV presente at the centre of the tennis row has a long think about his delivery.

I THINK the move to have plain cigarette packages is on the right track. It didn't seem to put people off when they were shown horrible images of what can happen to their insides so we may as well go even further and use plain packaging. Gone are the days when looked cool and the stars of the day were the ones we wanted to look like because they smoked. I think most people now are fully aware of the dangers and let's stub this habit out.
