In response to reader T MacLachlan of Cardonald, (September 25), I have an easy answer.

After decades of having their own sporting sides, flags, currency and borders, West and East Germany were delighted to be reunited.

The desire to share national resources in the federal model that is modern Germany was so popular they didn't need a referendum to test it out.

We held a referendum. A side won by 10%. It's about time the 45ers changed the record and we all moved on.

Accident risk

Well done to the Evening Times for highlighting jaywalking situation in Glasgow.

I can't believe the madness of some pedestrians. You can be driving along Renfield Street with the green lights and people walk right across the path of the car.

If there is a car behind you, you are at risk of an accident. If you try to avoid the pedestrian, whose fault would it be?

Not so scared

Alex Salmond and David Stirling blame the independence defeat on older people being scared for their pensions. Us oldies are canny Scots who don't believe glib promises of politicians. Our generation fought for freedom - without us there would be no SNP.

A square deal?

Regarding the Shawlands deli closure, don't waste money on a civic square that will not increase footfall to the shopping precinct.

A compulsory purchase order on the arcade can provide a mixed-use civic square and retail units. Make Shawlands buzz again and give people a reason to visit and stay for the day.

Vile morons

I refer to your story Vandals target memorial to Moira (September 25)

They are disgusting vile morons.

This is so so sad for the family and the memory of Moira Jones.

RIP.
