WELL done to everyone who has been involved in making the new Task centre in Gorbals happen.

Three years of hard work, fund-raising and negotiating with the authorities has culminated in a fantastic new £1.7m centre, a real asset to the community.

The centre will fulfil many needs in the area from providing childcare, after school care and respite for carers, giving people the opportunity to pursue careers.

The people at Task have identified what the area needed and then set about making sure there was provision to benefit local people.

The needs have increased since the project was initially set up and the facility was not able to cope with demand, but Task were not ready to give up or fail to rise to the challenge.

Instead, they identified where the funding is and went for it and now they have their reward for taking control of services in their community.

With services being cut back and closed the Gorbals Task force is a force to be reckoned with and an example of what can be achieved with strong community spirit and a determination to succeed.

Thanks to their efforts Gorbals has a new community hub for families that will be used by local people for many years to come.

Well done Task.
