ANDY MURDOCH is delighted his patience has paid off after earning himself a new Rangers deal.

The midfielder has signed on for a further two seasons after making a storming start to life in the Light Blues first team.

Murdoch netted his first Gers goal in the 2-1 win over Raith Rovers seven days ago, and is determined to make a big impact at Ibrox.

He said: "I always wanted to stay at Rangers, so I'm looking forward to it. It was good to get my first start and my first goal, so it has been a good few weeks.

"I talked to my family and they decided it would be the best for me if I stayed here. I came here at Under 14s from Everton Boys' Club and went full-time a few years later.

"I was on the bench a few times in the Third Division, but then got injured. I've had to be quite patient. You have to be in these circumstances.

"There's a lot of competition in the midfield area so I am just glad to have got a start."

Murdoch is the latest kid to emerge through the Murray Park ranks and catch the eye in the Rangers first team.

And the 20-year-old will take inspiration from Lewis Macleod, who was the star of the show for Rangers in the last few years before his January move to Brentford.

Murdoch said: "Lewis came in and did very well and he got himself a good move. I want to follow in his footsteps and do as well as he did here."
