KENNY BLACK admits it was a "no brainer" for him to return to Rangers with new Light Blues boss Stuart McCall this month.

The 51-year-old began his career at Ibrox in the early 80s and made 24 appearances for the club before leaving to join Motherwell.

He clinched his dream return to the club when McCall was appointed as Kenny McDowall's successor and quickly packed his bags and headed back to Glasgow from his home in Sheffield.

After enjoying huge success together at Fir Park as they lead the Steelmen to consecutive second place Premiership finishes, McCall and Black have now been tasked with returning Rangers to the top flight after a season to forget at Ibrox.

The Light Blues earned their first win under the new management team as they beat Hibernian 2-0 on Sunday and are now within touching distance of Alan Stubbs' side in the Championship standings.

Black said: "It was a no brainer for me to join the club. With the connections that Stuart has here at the club and myself to a lesser extent, it was a great challenge and opportunity for me to come back to where it all started for me.

"There certainly was no Murray Park when I was at the club under John Greig and Jock Wallace, but my affinity with the club is still there. I am very passionate about the upbringing that I received when I was at Ibrox because it stood me in good stead for my professional football career.

"It's been a long time since I was here as a player, but I'm delighted and honoured to have been appointed.

"Stuart and I both worked together at Motherwell before and we did not too bad. It was an exciting challenge for us to be invited to come here and see if we can get Rangers back to the top flight."
