ANDY GORAM has hit out at the 'sickening' and 'vile' abuse Rangers boss Ally McCoist has suffered as confusion surrounds his position at Ibrox.

The Gers boss yesterday handed in his notice and is set to leave the club, with the Light Blues board now set for crunch talks over McCoist's future.

Fans have hit out at McCoist as his side have struggled in recent weeks and nine-in-a-row legend Goram said: "I think a lot of people will be quite happy. A lot of the fans have wanted Coisty out for a while.

"The abuse he has taken has been pretty sickening, it has been vile.

"Ally McCoist, in two-and-a-half years, has had to put up with more rubbish off the pitch than any British manager has had in their careers.

"He steadied the ship at the start, he has got us through two promotions and he will get us through another one hopefully and accomplish what he set out to achieve, the three promotions to get us back to the top.

"Some of the abuse he has been taking recently has been terrible. But he is the kind of guy that will fight through it and get on with it until he has left the club."

Speculation has grown over McCoist's position as pressure has mounted on him from the stands.

But Goram hopes he can complete The Journey before heading for the Ibrox exit door.

He said: "I don't think the decision will have been taken lightly, he will have been thinking about it for a while.

"He said a wee while ago that if it started to affect his family then that would be a different story.

"He is an emotional boy, Coisty. He is a hard man, he is motivated and very focused on what he does.

"He is dead set on getting us back into the Premiership and that is testament to his love of the club.

"I think he just wants to get on with his job until he finishes and get us back up there."
