KENNY Miller today insisted the Rangers squad's strength in depth should allow them to compete in the Championship and three cup competitions this season.

The former Scotland striker helped the Light Blues beat Premiership outfit St Johnstone 1-0 on Tuesday at Ibrox to move into the semi-finals of the League Cup.

And he is hoping to be in the starting line-up when they take on Dumbarton in Saturday's Scottish Cup tie.

Miller is also looking forward to the Petrofac Training Cup semi-final against Alloa at the Indodrill Arena later this year.

Winning the league and completing "The Journey" from the bottom division to the top flight is Rangers' top priority this season.

But Miller doesn't think Ally McCoist's side should write off the other three trophies.

He insisted: "At a club like Rangers you should always be challenging for every competition you enter.

"And I think we should be trying to do that regardless of the position we are in at this moment in time."

In his previous spell at Ibrox Miller won the SPL title, League Cup and Scottish Cup.

And the 35-year-old forward reckons the club now has a strong enough squad to cope with the demands of all four competitions.

This summer boss McCoist brought in Miller plus Kris Boyd, Darren McGregor, Lee Robinson and Marius Zaliukas on frees.

He currently has four hitmen at his disposal - Boyd, Nicky Clark, Jon Daly and Miller, who stressed that he would perform to the best of his abilities even without that sort of intense competition for places.

But he predicted the size and quality of the Ibrox squad will allow them to challenge for silverware in all of the tournaments they are involved in.

Miller said: "Having guys waiting to take my place is not an issue for me. I go out and play my game regardless of who is on the sidelines.

"But it is good for us that we have strength in depth because that will help us to compete in all the competitions we have entered this season and are still in.

"There were a few weeks recently when we were able to score goals and win games without me or Boydy in the team.

"Nicky Clark has had a lot of game time in the last three months or so and now Jon Daly has also come in over the last few weeks and has done well.

"The big man has come back from injury and has looked sharp and scored a few goals.

"That is good for Jon and Nicky and good for the team as a whole.

"If we pick up some injuries and suspensions - as we are bound to do over the course of a long, hard season - then our numbers mean we should be able to cope with that."
