FURIOUS Rangers fans have bombarded an online petition demanding the Ibrox club hold an EGM since details of Mike Ashley's new loan deal were revealed.

Rangers announced on Tuesday that Sports Direct tycoon Ashley had agreed to lend the stricken Glasgow giants another £10million in order to keep them afloat.

However, the Newcastle United owner now has security over every club asset apart from the stadium - and that hasn't gone down well with irate Gers supporters.

And the fact that billionaire businessman Ashley has also been given a further 26% of Rangers Retail Limited has also not been well received by Light Blues followers.

They have flooded a petition set up by the London branch of the Rangers Supporters Association calling for the nomad WH Ireland to give the go-ahead to an EGM.

Major shareholder Dave King has called for a general meeting where he hopes to receive enough backing to oust the entire board and install new directors.

Over 1,000 fans have signed the online petition since news of the Ashley loan deal broke earlier this week and over 7,000 supporters have now signed it in total.

A London RFCSA spokesman said: "The latest piece of news to come out of Ibrox has seen us attract over 1,000 new signatures in the space of 48 hours.

"I think fans feel things aren't going the way they ought to be in the Blue Room.

"We now have over 7,000 signatures. That has exceeded every target that we conservatively set ourselves and I think that reflects the level of concern there is about the situation all over the country.

"I am hoping that by the end of the week we will get within touching distance or exceed 10,000 signatures.

"I think the Old Firm game will also serve as a call to action for Rangers supporters to sign this."

Rangers announced last week that they "verifying whether the notice is properly constituted" - and revealed they would ask King to withdraw it even if it was found to be valid.

The petition launched by the London RFCSA calls for WH Ireland to do their "duty as registered nomad and accept and enact the call of notice" and do their "legislative and fiduciary duty".

The association plan to draft in former Rangers players who are now based down in London to help them hand in the petition at the offices of WH Ireland next week.

And they are hopeful King will succeed in toppling the current regime if the EGM gets the green light from the London Stock Exchange-approved nominated adviser.

The spokesman added: "We have several well-regarded former players who live in and around the Greater London area and we have been in touch with a few of them.

"Hopefully we will have a one or two ex-players along with us when we hand it over. There will be no messing about when we go to the offices of WH Ireland.

"I think the numbers in terms of the EGM are very encouraging.

"Lots of people who sat on the fence before are now participating in one way or another and trying to help claim the soul of the club back."
